PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The
Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 4-0
lead, but Dominican College (N.Y.) outscored the Storm 14-2 the
rest of the way, including a seven-gaol fourth quarter, en route to
a 14-6 East Coast Conference victory Saturday night (March 20) in
Hillburn, N.Y.
Freshman Keegan Bal
(Coquitlam, B.C./Centennial Secondary) scored three goals
and added two assists for the Storm (1-3, 0-2). Classmate
Josh Becker (Salamanca, N.Y./Salamanca) scored
twice for Lake Erie.
Becker scored the game's
first goal, less than 1:30 into action. Bal followed with
back-to-back goals midway through the period and freshman
Kyle Larsen (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) made it 4-0
with 5:26 left in the first quarter.
But Dominican (3-2, 2-0) scored
twice in the final two minutes of the opening frame to close the
gap, then scored three times in the second to take the
lead. Becker scored for the Storm 1:34 before halftime to tie
the game at 5-5 heading into intermission.
Elliott Shepard and Jesse
Peterson scored in the third to put the Chargers up 7-5 after three
quarters and Peterson scored again early in the fourth to make it
8-5. It was a 10-5 game midway through the quarter when Bal
scored for the third time to cut the deficit to 10-6. But the
Chargers responded with four goals in the final 5:14 to close the
game.
Alex Jones led the Chargers with
four goals and a pair of assists. In addition to the two goals,
Peterson added two assists to finish with four
points. Goalkeeper Brendan Bonacum made 17 saves.
Freshman Alex Wisner
(Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Northview) made 14 saves for the
Storm.
Lake Erie returns to action on
Wednesday, March 24, when it hosts ECC foe Wheeling Jesuit
University in the Storm's home opener. Game time is 6
p.m. at Perry High School's Alumni Stadium in Perry,
Ohio.
