Box Score Lake Erie College (2-8-1, 0-8 GLIAC) stayed unbeaten in
non-conference play as it tied Urbana University (2-6-3), 0-0, in a
home match at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium in Painesville,
Ohio. The Storm is now 2-0-1 in non-conference action and it
was the first time this season Lake Erie played an overtime
match.
The first half was fairly evenly matched but Lake Erie held an
8-3 advantage in shots in the half and put four shots on goal to
just one for Urbana. Neither team had a great scoring chance
with the best being Urbana's lone look on goal off a set piece
which resulted in a team saved header.
The second half was much different as the Storm controlled the
tempo throughout and the Blue Knights best chances came on
counters. Lake Erie had a great look in the 57th
minute but sophomore Valerie
Urbanik's (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville) strong free
kick from 30 yards out struck the crossbar.
Lake Erie got two good looks in the first overtime which were
denied and Urbana had its only shot off a free kick with two
seconds to play in the period, as junior Chelsea
Giesen (Grants Pass, Ore./North Valley) made a sure handed
save.
Freshman Megan
Baldacci (Cavecreek, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) stopped two shots
but left in the 85th minute due to injury. Giesen
replaced her and made the one save
The Storm won the battle of shots, 20-7, and corner kicks,
7-3.
Lake Erie is in action next on Sunday, Oct. 10 when it travels
to face Ashland in a GLIAC matchup beginning at 12:00 p.m. Ashland
won the first meeting between these teams this season, 3-0.
