Lake Erie College (1-10, 0-6 GLIAC) came up short in a 3-1 loss
to GLIAC foe Northwood University (4-1, 3-1 GLIAC) in a home match
at Jack Britt Stadium in Painesville, Ohio.
In what has become a familiar theme for Lake Erie this year, the
Storm fell behind quickly as Matthew Howitt put the Timberwolves on
the board after his first attempt was saved by the Lake Erie
defense. Northwood extended its lead to 2-0 in the
40th minute as Nicholas Sliger scored on an assist from
Howitt and Keith Lough.
Lough would get a goal of his own coming out of halftime in the
52nd minute after the ball came free off a Lake Erie
defender in front of the goal. The Storm would get on the
board in the 68th minute when a beautiful pass ahead
from junior defender Kyle Roesch
(Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) hit junior forward Marco Gaudio
(Cambridge, England/Impington Village College) in stride and
Gaudio converted his fifth goal of the season and fourth in just
the past three games. Gaudio was Lake Erie's biggest
offensive spark in the game with four of the Storm's five shots on
goal.
In goal for Lake Erie, sophomore Ricky
Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy) played a
strong match and made 11 saves.
Northwood won the battle of shots, 21-9, and corner kicks,
4-3.
The Storm are in action next on Thursday, Oct. 7 when they
travel to take on non-conference foe Seton Hill at 4:00 p.m.
