Lake Erie College's (1-14-1, 0-10 GLIAC) effort was not
enough in a 3-1 loss to Ohio Dominican University (11-4-1, 8-2-1
GLIAC) in a home match at Jack Britt Stadium in Painesville,
Ohio. The Panthers are currently the second place team in the
GLIAC standings.
From the onset it was all Ohio Dominican as they completely
dominated the first half. The Panthers held a 18-2 advantage
in shots during the half and they were all strong scoring
opportunities as they put 13 shots on goal. Two of
ODU's attacks were successful as Justin Wheeler scored in the
20th minute and Sean Lipps connected from Suma Kargbo in
the 42nd minute.
The second half was a different story as Ohio Dominican appeared
content to sit on its two goal advantage and Lake Erie took six of
the first eight shots of the period. One of those resulted in
the eighth goal of the season by junior forward Marco
Gaudio (Cambridge, England/Impington Village College).
The goal was a high arcing redirection off a pass from senior
Anthony Belviso (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid). The Panthers refocused
after the Storm cut the margin to one and added an insurance goal
in the 74th minute when Kargbo found Pat McGrath with a
nice cross from deep in the corner.
Ohio Dominican could have netted more than three goals were it
not for 14 saves by sophomore Ricky
Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy), including
several superb stops in the first half.
Ohio Dominican won the battle of shots, 27-11, and corner kicks,
7-2.
The Storm are in action next on Friday when they face GLIAC foe
Findlay at Slattery Field in a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
