Lake Erie College (1-13-1, 0-9 GLIAC) fell to Northwood
University (6-4-3, 3-3-3), 2-1, in overtime at the Midland Soccer
Complex in Midland, Mich. It was the second straight match
the Storm dropped by a 2-1 count in extra time.
After a scoreless first half, the Timberwolves got on the board
first in the 55th minute as Mitchell Brent scored off a
pass from Brent Schmidt. It looked like that 1-0 lead might
hold up for Northwood until Lake Erie junior forward Marco Gaudio
(Cambridge, England/Impington Village College) scored his team-high
seventh goal of the season in the 84th minute to send
the match to overtime.
It appeared the game was on its way to a second extra frame when
Northwood's Matt Miller had a pass deflected into the box to where
Keith Lough could score from six yards out with just 20 seconds to
play in the overtime for the "golden goal."
Sophomore goalie Rick Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri
Academy) made nine saves in defeat.
Northwood outshot the Storm, 24-6, and won the battle of corner
kicks, 6-3.
The Storm is home for their final three matches of the season,
beginning Sunday with a GLIAC match against Ohio Dominican at 3:30
p.m.
