For 78 minutes, Lake Erie College (1-9. 0-7) and Saginaw Valley State University (6-3-1, 3-2-1 GLIAC) were even but a Cardinals goal in the 79^th spoiled the Storm's return home to Jack Britt Stadium in Painesville, Ohio after a six-game road trip.

Saginaw Valley got on the board first just 3:36 into the game as sophomore Ricky Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy) made a great save on a header but could not corral the rebound which was put in by Anthony Palazullo.  Lake Erie had a great chance on a header of its own off a corner kick just minutes later but senior defender Justin Mihaly's (Lowellville, Ohio/Ursuline) attempt was denied.  That was the last point blank look for either team in a physical first half which saw 22 combined fouls and Saginaw have a 15-5 margin in shots.   

The second half was a much different story as Lake Erie stormed out of the gates in the first five minutes and a barrage of shots yielded the Storm's first goal of the match as junior Marco Gaudio (Cambridge, England/Impington Village College) picked up where he left off in scoring two goals during Tuesday's win at Walsh and found the back of the net from 15 yards out on the left side.  The play was started by a pass ahead by Mihaly, who was credited with the assist. 

Inspired play and a loud home crowd helped Lake Erie control the first 30 minutes of the second half but starting in the 78^th minute, the Cardinals saw five great chances in a two minute span.  Carreira made saves on the first four, ranging from good to spectacular, but the fifth, a header by Noah Sawyer off a cross into the box by Conor Reaume at the 78:42 mark found the net and gave SVSU the 2-1 advantage which would hold up for the Cardinal victory.

Carreira finished with 11 saves in the game for Lake Erie. Saginaw Valley won the battle of shots, 26-12, and corner kicks, 13-3.

The Storm are in action next on Sunday when they face GLIAC foe Northwood University at Jack Britt Stadium with first touch scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
