Hanford's Late Goal Lifts Storm to Victory

Box Score

PAINESVILLE, OHIO -- Freshman Jenna Hanford (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) scored her first career goal with just 1:10 remaining in regulation to lift the Lake Erie College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown this afternoon (Sept. 9) at Slattery Field.

Hanford broke the scoreless tie from 10 yards out off a pass from classmate Kaitlyn Holland (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington), evening the Storm's record at 2-2 on the season.

Up until that point it had been a defensive struggle. Senior Chelsea Giesen (Grants Pass, Ore./North Valley) and freshman Jaimie Nelson (Las Vegas, Nev./Las Vegas) combined to make five saves in goal for the Storm while Stephanie Paha made four saves for Pitt-Johnstown (2-2).

Lake Erie held an 11-6 advantage in shots in the match.

The Storm returns to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 11, when it hosts Ashland University at 4 p.m.
