Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio - Junior striker Scott
Stuckey (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) scored twice in the 86th
minute to lead the Lake Erie men's soccer team to a
come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Ohio Valley on Saturday (Sept.
26).
On a chilly, rainy day at Slattery Field, the Storm finally
broke through in the 86th minute as junior Justin
Mihaley (Lowellville, Ohio/Ursuline) took a shot on goal that
OVU keeper Spencer Widlicka could not control. The ball bounced
straight to Stucky, who poked it in from the right side of net.
The goal tied the game after the Fighting Scots took a 1-0 lead in
the 53rd minute when Danny Fernandez scored off a rebound from a
free kick.
With the game tied, the Storm began another rush after gaining
possession. Mihaley carried the ball down the left side before
lofting a perfect cross near the front of the net. Stuckey volleyed
it into the top side of net and bolted down the sideline in
celebration.
The Storm (2-5-1) hung on from there for the thrilling 2-1 win to
extend its unbeaten streak to three games.
The Fighting Scots (2-8) out-shot the Storm, 18-9, and
controlled much of the second half until the final 10 minutes. Lake
Erie was helped by its backline, which forced the Scots offsides 13
times.
Lake Erie keeper Ricky
Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy) stopped 10
shots in the win.
The game marked the end of a seven game homestand as the team will
hit the road for a game Tuesday (Sept. 29) at Walsh University at 4
p.m.
