Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The Lake Erie College men's soccer team
scored a pair of goals in the second half on its way to a 3-1 win
over the University of Pitt-Johnstown. It was the first win of the
season for the Storm.
Lake Erie (1-5) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute of the
game as freshman striker Rob Searles (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame
Cathedral Latin) found senior midfielder Everton Blake (Clardenon,
Jamaica/Clardenon/Lakeland CC) making a gorgeous run through the
middle of the Pitt-Johnstown backline.
Blake deposited the feed from eight yards out for his second
goal of the season.
The Mountain Cats (2-4) knotted the score in the 20th minute on
Derik Swope's goal, which came off a headed assist by Tyler
Aldinger.
The game remained tied until the 77th minute as junior striker
Scott Stucky (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon) made a run to the net but was
fouled in the box and was rewarded with a penalty kick. He plainly
put the ball on the right side to make it 2-1.
The Storm sealed its first victory in the 82nd minute as junior
Justin Mihaley (Lowellville, Ohio/Ursuline) scored off an assist
from senior Drew Indiano (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid) to give the Storm a
3-1 lead.
Senior keeper Jared Daly needed to make just one save on the day as
the Storm back line allowed just two shots on goal and five shots
overall. The Storm took 12 shots but was hampered by 13 offsides in
the game.
Lake Erie continues its seven-game homestand at Slattery Field at 4
p.m. when it will battle West Virginia Wesleyan.
