Box Score PAINESVILLE, OHIO - The Lake Erie College men's soccer team came
up just short in its home opener today (Sept. 1), dropping a 1-0
decision to visiting Wheeling Jesuit University at Slattery
Field.
The loss was the third straight to start the season for the
Storm (0-3) while the Cardinals (1-0-1) notched their first victory
on the young season.
After a scoreless first half, Wheeling Jesuit struck in the 62nd
minute, with Paul Silverstone connecting off a feed from Chris
Wilson.
The Storm appeared to tie the match in the 72nd minute, but a
goal by freshman Rob Searles (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral
Latin) was negated by an offsides call. Two minutes later, senior
Justin Rraya (Parma, Ohio/Normandy) was denied on a free kick by
Cardinal goalie Shane Young.
Young picked up the shutout, recording three saves. Redshirt
freshman Ricky Carriera (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy)
made two saves in his first career start.
The Storm returns to action on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 5, when
it hosts the University of Charleston (W. Va.) at 2 p.m.
