Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The Lake Erie men's soccer team fell behind
early to Findlay on Thursday (Oct. 15) and could never recover as
the Oilers topped the Storm, 3-0, at Slattery Field.
Brennan Williams gave Findlay a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute of the
game, knocking the ball into the right side of the net, past Lake
Erie keeper Ricky Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighiery
Academy).
The Storm (5-9-1) stuck with the Oilers for much of the contest,
but could not produce many quality scoring chances, putting just
five of their 10 shots on net.
Findlay (6-7-1) put the game away in the last four minutes with
goals by Joey Gogolin and Corey Keister.
The Lake Erie back line was solid for much of the middle part of
the game, keeping the Oilers at bay and drawing Findlay offsides 14
times.
Carreira made 10 saves in the match, while Scott Stuckey (Avon
Lake, Ohio/Avon) unleashed four shots and Justin Mihaley
(Lowellville, Ohio/Ursuline) placed three shots on net.
Findlay out-shot Lake Erie, 18-10, and managed one more corner kick
(7-6) than the Storm.
The Storm hit the road on Sunday (Oct. 18) for a tilt against
Alderson-Broaddus College in West Virginia at 3:30 p.m.
