Robert "Bobby" Hain is entering his first season as the associate head coach of the Storm men’s basketball program and sixth overall in 2023-24.
Hain joined the Storm coaching staff in 2018, serving as a graduate assistant and promoted to full-time assistant coach in 2021. Hain's key roles for the men's basketball program include player development, recruiting, scouting, and monitoring the team's academic progress.
In his first season as a graduate assistant, Hain helped coach the Storm to their second consecutive Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) tournament appearance after setting a program record in their Division II era for most wins (17) and most conference wins (12). The 2018-2019 team finished the regular season with a 17-12 overall record and 12-8 in conference play, giving the Storm the No. 6 seed in the postseason tournament.
In Hain’s time at Lake Erie College, he has had a strong hand in the development of award-winning Storm athletes.
Gabe Kynard, 2018-2019 an D2CCA All-Region Second Team, CoSIDA Academic All-Region, and All-G-MAC First Team selection after he led the team and was fourth in the G-MAC with 18.2 points per game.
In 2019-2020 Gabe Kynard was the Great Midwest Player of the Year, D2CCA All-Midwest Region Team and NABC All-District Midwest Region Team. He was also a 2019-20 CoSIDA Academic All-American and All-District Team selection. The senior guard lead the conference in scoring at 20.3 points per game while shooting .433 percent from the field.
Jacob Plantz, 2022-2023, 2nd Team All-Conference. Averaging 12.9 PPG while shooting 44.1% from the field and 31% from three.
Jonny Manning, 2022 -2023, 2nd Team All-conference. On the season he would average a career best 12.4 PPG and 6.8 RPG.
Prior to joining the Lake Erie coaching staff, Hain played collegiately at Youngstown State University from 2012 to 2016. After four seasons playing with the Penguins, Hain finished 8th all-time in program history scoring 1,187 points and finished fourth all-time in rebounds with 679.
Following his collegiate career, Hain played professionally for Villars Basket in Fribourg Switzerland, where he averaged 21 points and 13 rebounds per game. Hain helped Villars reach their first post-season semifinal berth and earned Euro Basket 2nd team All–Switzerland honors in 2017.
Hain earned his bachelor’s degree in Organizational Communications from Youngstown State University in 2016 and earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Lake Erie College in 2020.
