John Tsironis

John Tsironis is entering his first season as the kicking coach for the Storm football program in 2024 and his 10th overall. He previously served as the Associate Head Coach and Special Teams Coordinator from 2022-2023. This is Tsironis’ second stint with the team, serving in various coaching roles from 2012 to 2018.

In 2019, Tsironis left the Storm for the pro ranks to serve as the specialist coach for the Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League, helping former Ohio State Buckeyes kicker Tyler Durban develop into an AFL Indoor kicker.

After working in the AFL in 2019, Tsironis went on to serve as the specialist coach for the Lutheran East Falcons football team during the Covid year, helping them reach the second round of the 2020 Ohio High School Athletic Association Division V Playoffs.

In his first stint with the Storm football team, Tsironis served as the kicking game coordinator/sports performance coach in 2017 and 2018, after previously serving as the assistant special teams coordinator/director of strength and conditioning in 2016. Tsironis had his first opportunity to help lead the special teams, as the special team coach in 2015, after getting his start as the assistant special team coach in 2014. As a position coach, Tsironis spent five years (2014-18) working with the kickers, punters, holders, and long snappers. Before Tsironis made the transition to special teams, he served as the strength and conditioning coordinator in his first two seasons with the Storm.

Before joining the Storm, Tsironis was the head strength and conditioning coach for the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League (2008-10). Prior to that, he served for three seasons (2005-07) as a strength and conditioning assistant for the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals, helping the team win the AFC North Division Championship and a playoff berth in 2005. Tsironis also helped with the strength and conditioning of Carson Palmer’s ACL injury, on his way to becoming the 2007 Pro Bowl MVP.

Tsironis has worked in the college ranks with teams at Malone University, Ohio Northern University, Middle Tennessee State University, and the University of Mississippi. At Malone, he served as the strength and conditioning coordinator for a Pioneers team that achieved a No. 10 national ranking in the NAIA regular-season polls, while earning a trip to the 2008 NCCAA Victory Bowl. From 2004-05, Tsironis served as the strength and conditioning coordinator for Ohio Northern, helping the Polar Bears finish as back-to-back OAC Runner-ups with an 8-2 record both seasons, as well as Top 25 finishers in the Final AFCA Division III Polls.

Tsironis got his start in college athletics in 2001, serving as a student assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Middle Tennessee State football team that won the Inaugural Sun Belt Conference title. As an intern assistant strength and conditioning coach at Ole Miss, he helped the Rebels and Eli Manning win the 2002 Independence Bowl, and the 2003 SEC West Co-Championship. 

Tsironis, will also bring Inspirational leadership to the Storm serving as the team chaplain. He got his chaplain training from both the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Athletes in Action. Tsironis also served for 10 years (2008-17) as the team chaplain for the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League. A highlight for Tsironis was leading the Game-Day Chapel for the Gladiators at ArenaBowl XXVII.

As a Minor League Punter, Tsironis helped the (Youngstown) Western Reserve Scourge win the 2015 Ohio Football League Championship. Tsironis capped off his playing career with a 54-yard opening punt downed at the 2-yard line, helping the All-American Eagles defeat the Florida All-Stars 9-0 to win the 2015 All American Bowl XX Championship. In 2015 Tsironis was inducted into the Minor League Football Hall of Fame.

Tsironis graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Ohio State University in 1989, and a Masters of Divinity from Memphis Theological Seminary in 2003. Tsironis, a native of Cleveland, Ohio has been married to his wife Jessica Huber Tsironis since 2015.
