PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie College women's soccer team picked up a 2-1 victory over Ursuline College, scoring once in each half to secure the G-MAC win.
Lake Erie opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when
Ava Moore found the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
Alexia Pallas provided the assist to give the Storm an early 1-0 advantage. Ursuline responded in the 36th minute, as Vanessa Baugatz scored off an assist from Dora Peszlen to send the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.
The Storm continued to pressure the Arrows after the break.
Isabella Carvalho eventually broke the tie in the 75th minute, capitalizing on an Ursuline turnover and sending the ball into the upper-right corner for her fourth goal of the season. The goal proved to be the game-winner as Lake Erie held Ursuline scoreless for the remainder of the match.
Lake Erie finished the match with a
12-9 advantage in shots and placed six attempts on goal.
Carvalho led the Storm attack with six shots, including four on target, while
Moore added four shots and two on goal.
In goal,
Morgan VanMeter played all 90 minutes and made four saves while allowing just one goal. The Storm defense limited Ursuline to five shots on goal throughout the contest.
With the victory, Lake Erie improves to 3
-4-3 overall and 2-3-1 in G-MAC play, while Ursuline falls to 1-6-1 overall and 0-5-0 in conference action. The Storm are back in action on Thursday, October 1, as they take on the Oilers in Findlay, OH at 4pm.
