Painesville, Ohio - The Lake Erie College volleyball team dropped a four-set match to the visiting Walsh University Cavaliers on Tuesday night at Jerome T. Osborne Athletic Center.
The Cavs took the opening set 25-22 before Lake Erie bounced back with a 25-21 win in the second. However, Walsh would flex its muscle over the final two frames, earning 25-13 and 25-10 wins over the Storm.
Allison Kirch did all she could to keep the Storm in the match, registering 17 kills, 13 digs, and a pair of aces.
Nora Larson added nine finishes, while
Kennedy Stewart added seven kills to accompany two block assists and one solo block.
Kylie Anderson dished out 31 assists and was one of four players to record double-digit digs as she posted 12.
Bella Kessler led the way with 28 digs in the setback.
LEC trailed 19-11 in the opening set but showed some resiliency, fighting all the way back to within two, 24-22, with an 11-5 burst that forced the visitors to call a timeout before ultimately clinching the set.
The Storm would carry that momentum over into the second session, claiming a 6-3 lead following an ace from Kirch and forcing the Cavs to use another timeout. Walsh stayed within striking distance, tying the set at 9-9 and later at 16-all. The Storm would respond by scoring four of the next five points to claim a 20-17 advantage. It would be Kirch who would put the finishing touches on the win, scoring the final three points of the set to level the match at 1-1.
Unfortunately, the Cavaliers would respond in a big way over the final two sets as Lake Erie never really challenged the final outcome.
The loss dropped Lake Erie back to 5-7 overall and 3-3 in the G-MAC. Walsh improved to 7-4 and remained unbeaten in the league at 4-0.
The Storm will look to get back on track on Friday night when Ashland University comes to town for a 6 p.m. match.
