CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. — The Lake Erie College women's soccer team fell to Thomas More University, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Republic Bank Field.
The Storm opened the match aggressively, producing three shots during the first 15 minutes.
Isabella Carvalho had an attempt blocked in the 14th minute, while
Ava Moore and
Evie Rice each sent shots just wide of the goal.
Thomas More broke through in the 25th minute when Ivy Hoffman scored off an assist from Olivia Barga. Less than two minutes later, Alexis Harden doubled the Saints' advantage with assists from Andjela Popovic and Barga.
Popovic added another goal in the 37th minute, sending Lake Erie into halftime trailing 3-0.
The Storm continued creating opportunities after the break.
Carvalho recorded two early attempts before
Teena Erras had a shot blocked in the 59th minute.
Alexia Pallas followed with an attempt that went just over the crossbar.
Thomas More extended its lead in the 53rd minute when Hoffman scored her second goal of the afternoon.
Lake Erie's only shot on goal came in the 70th minute when
Moore placed a shot toward the lower-right corner, but Thomas More goalkeeper Natalie Kindt made the save.
Carlie McVey recorded the Storm's final attempt in the 77th minute.
Both teams finished with nine shots and two corner kicks. The difference came in accuracy, as Thomas More placed all nine of its attempts on goal compared with one for Lake Erie.
Morgan Vanmeter started in goal for the Storm and made four saves in 76 minutes.
Sydney Emler played the final 14 minutes and added one save.
With the loss, Lake Erie moves to 1-2-3 on the season. The Storm will return to Campus Field on Thursday, Sept. 17, when they host Walsh University at 5 p.m.
