CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. — Fabio Juricko scored in the 89th minute as the Lake Erie College men's soccer team battled Thomas More University to a 3-3 draw on Saturday afternoon at Republic Bank Field.
The Saints opened the scoring just over two minutes into the match when Mauricio Medina found the back of the net. The Storm responded quickly, however, as
Alex Banjac scored an unassisted goal in the fifth minute to even the match at 1-1.
Lake Erie took its first lead in the 12th minute.
William Hjelte placed his shot into the upper-right corner of the goal, giving the Storm a 2-1 advantage.
Thomas More answered six minutes later when Will Fox scored off an assist from Edward Longhurst. The two teams entered halftime tied at 2-2 after combining for four goals during the opening 18 minutes.
The match remained level through much of the second half before Ramzi Termanini put the Saints ahead, 3-2, in the 78th minute.
With time running out, the Storm continued to push forward in search of an equalizer. Juricko entered the match in the 87th minute and made an immediate impact, scoring into the lower-right corner with just under two minutes remaining to secure the 3-3 draw.
Thomas More held a 13-8 advantage in total shots and placed five attempts on goal compared to Lake Erie's three. Each of the Storm's three shots on target resulted in a goal. The teams finished even with three corner kicks apiece, while Lake Erie goalkeeper
Patrick Bassett recorded two saves.
Banjac, Hjelte and Juricko each netted their second goal of the season, helping Lake Erie secure the draw.
The Storm move to 2-2-2 on the season and return home on Thursday, September 17, to face Ohio Dominican University at 7:30 p.m. at Campus Field.
