MENTOR, Ohio — The Lake Erie softball team hosts the Malone University Pioneers today for senior day at Mentor High School. The Storm played well as a team but dropped both games of the doubleheader.
GAME 1
LAKE ERIE - 1
MALONE - 8
The early innings of the game saw a lot of soft contact from each team and a nice 'bend don't break' pitching performance from starting pitcher Sydney Murray.
In the top of the third, the Pioneers put up two runs and added another in the fourth.
In the bottom half of the fourth, Lily Turkowski led off the inning by crushing a home run over the right field fence, getting the Storm on the board.
The Pioneers added three more in the sixth and two more in the seventh to close out the game with an 8-1 final score.
Turkowski finished the day going 3-for-3 and Peyton Powers anchored the top of the lineup with a 2-for-3 outing.
GAME 2
LAKE ERIE - 2
MALONE - 5
Lake Erie would strike first in game two, putting together a string of hits and heads up base running.
Peyton Powers led off the inning with a double off the right center field wall and a single by Sydney Taylor pushed her over to third with no outs.
Taylor would advance to second on a wild pitch and the first run of the board crossed on a fielders choice. During Lillian Campbell's at-bat, Vanessa White would steal second and Taylor would cross home, extending the lead to 2-0.
The Pioneers tied the game up in the top of the next inning and took a 3-2 lead in the third.
Lily Turkowski held them down in the fourth and fifth in the circle, but Malone extended their lead to 5-2 in the sixth and held on to that until the end.
Powers finished the game with a 3-for-3 day while Taylor, Campbell, and Faith Thompson each recorded a hit to round out the Storm's hits.
Turkowski pitched a complete seven innings in the circle, allowing six hits and three earned runs along the way.
