PEPPER PIKE, Ohio — The Lake Erie softball team took a short road trip today to face the Ursuline Arrows in another Great Midwest matchup. The Storm would struggle against Ursuline's pitching on the day and dropped both games of the doubleheader.
GAME 1
LAKE ERIE - 0
URSULINE - 7
Ursuline started off strong and put up three runs in the first inning to take an early lead. The Storm offense struggled while facing off against their ace, Macy Searles.
Lake Erie got their best scoring opportunity in the fifth inning when Lillian Campbell singled to left field and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Megan Miller but were ultimaly unable to get the run on the board.
GAME 2
LAKE ERIE - 2
URSULINE - 5
Both offenses got of to a slow start in game two. The Storm would end up striking first though and in the third inning they got a two-out triple from Samantha Lippiatt who later crossed home after a Lillian Campbell double to center field.
Ursuline took the lead right back in the bottom half of the inning with five runs on five hits and held onto that lead thr rest of the way.
In the top of the seventh, down 5-1, the Storm got a rally going.
Faith Thompson led off the inning by reaching first on a Ursuline error. Lily Turkowski then advanced her to second with a single to center field and Allie Jackson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A Peyton Powers ground out scored Thompson to trim the deficit to 5-2 but unfortunately that was the end of the rally and the Storm dropped game two in Pepper Pike.
Looking Ahead
Lake Erie will be back in action on Saturday, April 18th for senior day as they face the Malone Pioneers for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
