Softball Drops Sunday Doubleheader to the Eagles

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie softball team hosted the Ashland University Eagles on today for another G-MAC doubleheader, wrapping up a rigorous stretch of eight games in five days. Despite a strong effort, the Storm would drop both contests.

GAME 1
ASHLAND - 11
LAKE ERIE - 3

5 innings

Ashland took a 1-0 lead in the first and extended the lead with two more runs in the second.

In the bottom half of the inning, Lillian Campbell singled and advanced to second on a fielding error by the left fielder. Megan Miller's speed earned herself an infield single and with just one out, the Storm had runners on first and second. Vanessa White then stepped up to the plate and smoked a home run to left field, tying up the game at three.

The Eagles battle back however, and scored eight unanswered runs, ending the game with a final score of 11-3 after five innings.

Six different players recorded hits for the Storm, with Peyton Powers, Samantha Lippiatt, and Lily Turkowski adding one apiece alongside Campbell, Miller, and White.

GAME 2
ASHLAND - 6
LAKE ERIE - 0

Ashland jumped out to an early lead in game two, driving in two runs in the first inning and one more in the third. Despite this early success, the Storm pitching settled down and allowed just three more runs across the next five innings.

The Storm offense got runners in scoring position a few times but was unable to score, ending the game with a 6-0 final.

Peyton Powers led the team going 2-for-3 at the top of the order with Sydney Taylor, Lillian Campbell, and Megan Miller each having a hit as well.
