CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie softball team was back on the road today, competing this time against the Cedarville Yellow Jackets. Despite an exciting game one, the Storm would drop both G-MAC contests on the day.
GAME 1
LAKE ERIE - 6
CEDARVILLE - 7
The Storm got on the board first in the third inning.
Allie Jackson singled to get the bats rolling and back-to-back walks from
Peyton Powers and
Megan Miller loaded the bases for
Sydney Taylor. With a 2-1 count, Taylor got a hold of one and crushed it over the high center field fence for a grand slam and gave the Storm a 4-0 lead.
The Yellow Jackets responded with two runs in the bottom half, tied up the game in the bottom of the fourth and took a 7-4 lead by the end of the fifth.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Lillian Campbell doubled to right center to score
Samantha Lippiatt and in the seventh, Taylor came up big again and drove home Powers to bring Lake Erie within one. Unfortunately, that was the end of the offensive run for the Storm and they fell 7-6 to begin the day.
Taylor finished the day going 2-for-4 with a run scored and five RBIs. Lippiatt went 2-for-3 and Powers, Campbell, and Jackson accounted for the remaining three hits for Lake Erie.
Sydney Murray held it down in the circle, throwing six innings, allowing six hits and just three earned runs while striking out three batters.
GAME 2
LAKE ERIE - 2
CEDARVILLE - 10
5 innings
The Storm once again got on the board first. They put together two hits, a walk, a fielding error by the Yellow Jackets, and a fielder's choice to score two in the top of the second. With the bases loaded,
Allie Jackson singled to right field, scoring
Faith Thompson and
Lillian Campbell to take an early lead.
From there, the bats went quiet and the Cedarville bats woke up to score 10 unanswered, finishing the game in five innings by a final score of 10-2.
Looking Ahead
Lake Erie will be back at home on Sunday, April 12th to face the Ashland Eagles. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
