No. 4 Seton Hill Defeats Lake Erie in First G-MAC Matchup

GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania -- The Lake Erie men's lacrosse team battled in their first G-MAC game on Wednesday afternoon against #4 Seton Hill, falling by a final score of 14-3. By halftime, the Griffins had jumped out to a 9-1 lead, and by the end of the third period had expanded it to 13-1. The Storm played until the final whistle, outscoring the home team in the fourth period, but drop to 0-4 this season.

In the win, the perennially impressive Griffins move to 48-5 since joining the G-MAC in 2017.

Game Recap

Despite an impressive six shots on goal from their nine first-period attempts, the Storm came away empty-handed, as the Griffins' goalie is among the best in Division II. Meanwhile, 15 shot attempts for Seton Hill resulted in a 4-0 score after the first 15 minutes.

Less than a minute after the second period began, Andrew Cramer got the Storm on the board off an assist from Robert Neil. Outside of that, the Griffins showed why they are one of the best teams in the nation, scoring six goals to take a 9-1 lead into halftime.

The third period was much of the same, as the Storm were held to just three shot attempts while the Griffins added four more goals. However, the final 15 minutes were an impressive showing from LEC. Despite finding only two opportunities to record shots on goal, both resulted in scores, as Storm standouts Joey Ellison and Billy Coughlin each found the back of the net.

Notables

Landon Ramsier subbed in at goalkeeper for the final quarter, allowing just one goal while making five saves and leading the team in ground balls with three.

Looking Ahead

With four of their more daunting opponents out of the way, Lake Erie's schedule becomes more manageable moving forward. Thomas More (1-3) is next on the slate, as they travel to Painesville on Saturday, March 7 for a 1 PM game. Lake Erie is 2-0 all-time against the Saints, winning in 2024 by a score of 17-6 and visiting Crestview Hills last season, winning 12-8. While still very early in the season, Thomas More currently has the worst save percentage in the conference at just 38.9% and allows a G-MAC-high 18.9 goals per game.
