Davenport Pulls Away from Lake Erie in Nonconference Matchup

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's lacrosse team battled the Davenport Panthers on Tuesday afternoon, falling by a score of 22-2. After scoring within the first minute to take a 1-0 lead, the Storm were shut out for the remainder of the half and entered halftime trailing 12-1. The second half wasn't much kinder, as Lake Erie drops to 0-4 on the season.

Game Recap

Gabriella Adie continued her excellent freshman campaign to open the game, scoring her fifth goal of the season just 47 seconds in to give the Storm an early 1-0 advantage. From there, however, the Panthers closed out the first half while allowing just three more shots from the Lake Erie offense, staying on the attack for nearly the entire stretch. After a 3-1 Davenport lead at the end of the first quarter, the margin grew to 12-1 by halftime.

Four more Panther goals in the third period pushed the score to 16-1, but Rachel Rose fired in a late goal for her second of the season. Six additional goals from the visitors capped off an impressive night for Davenport, as they improved to 3-1 overall.

Notables

The Panthers' offense was potent, attempting 30 more shots than Lake Erie and finishing with a shot-on-goal percentage of nearly 75%.

One bright spot was Lake Erie's 13-12 edge in draw controls, but the Storm struggled to turn possessions into opportunities. The aggressive Davenport defense forced a season-high 33 turnovers.

Goalkeeper Avery Artino earned the start and made eight saves. Bethany Kirkwood entered late in the third quarter and recorded two saves to close out the game.

Looking Ahead

Lake Erie will look to get into the win column on Saturday, March 7th, as the Storm travel to face Wheeling University. The Cardinals sit at 1-3 on the season and are led in scoring by senior Jovie Noack with 10 goals. Junior Klara Domachowska leads the team with 14 total points, including a team-high eight assists.
