PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's lacrosse team battled Ashland University on Wednesday afternoon, falling by a score of 23-0. After the Eagles defeated Ursuline 21-0 on Sunday without allowing a shot or losing a draw control, they stayed hot to open this one, converting on their first 10 shots to take a 10-0 lead and trigger a running clock in under nine minutes.
From there, the Storm defense settled in, saving the next two shots, forcing two more wide, and causing two turnovers before Ashland found the back of the net again. By halftime, the visitors held a 17-0 advantage.
The final two periods were much more competitive, as LEC improved on clears and played stronger team defense, forcing five turnovers in the third period alone. Ashland shifted to longer, more deliberate possessions, and the Storm responded well, allowing just nine shot attempts after the break, with two saves and one wide. Offensively, Lake Erie also found more opportunities, taking four shots in the second half after managing just one in the opening two periods. Ultimately, the Eagles kept LEC off the board, securing the 23-0 win.
Brooke McNeal recorded the lone shot on goal for Lake Erie, which was saved in the first period by the Ashland goalkeeper.
