Pepper Pike, Ohio - The Lake Erie College volleyball team rallied from an opening-set loss to earn a 3-1 victory over Ursuline University Saturday afternoon at the Sister Diana Stano Athletic Center. The Storm fell 25-18 in the opening set before taking the next three, 25-22, 25-12 and 25-22.
Allison Kirch led the Storm offensively with 12 kills, three service aces, and 15 points.
Sadie Nawrocki added nine kills, while
Gabrielle Jones contributed seven kills in three sets of action.
Ni'yah Fuggs recorded six kills and five block assists, while
Kennedy Stewart finished with five kills, two blocks and a .417 hitting percentage.
Nora Larson added four kills and a block assist.
Kylie Anderson directed the Lake Erie offense with 36 assists and added three kills, two service aces and five digs.
Bella Kessler paced the defensive effort with 20 digs, while
Cecelia Mullens added 13 digs and
Dylan Fox had seven.
The Storm hit .246 as a team, recording 47 kills on 134 attacks. Lake Erie also held an advantage at the net, totaling 14 block assists and one solo block.
After dropping the opening set, Lake Erie battled back in the second. The Storm and Arrows traded points throughout the set before Lake Erie closed on top, 25-22, to even the match.
Lake Erie then took control in the third set, racing to a 25-12 victory. The Storm used a strong offensive attack and a pair of service aces from Kirch to build a commanding advantage.
The fourth set was closely contested early before Lake Erie created separation late. The Storm built a 24-18 lead and held off a late Ursuline push to secure the 25-22 victory and complete the comeback.
LEC is back in action next Friday when it hosts Tiffin University at 6 p.m.Â
