TIFFIN, Ohio — The Lake Erie College men's soccer team earned a hard-fought point on the road Friday afternoon, battling G-MAC-leading #16 Tiffin to a 0-0 draw at the Paradiso Athletic Complex. The result moves the Storm to 5-4-3 overall and 4-2-2 in conference play, while Tiffin moves to 6-1-4 overall and 5-0-2 in the G-MAC.
Tiffin controlled much of the attacking pressure in the opening half, outshooting Lake Erie 9-0 and earning eight corner kicks. The Storm defense stood strong, however, keeping the Dragons off the scoreboard. Goalkeeper Patrick Bassett made a key save in the seventh minute on Laurent Kenmoe to help preserve the scoreless tie.
Lake Erie settled into the match after halftime and began creating more chances of its own. The Storm earned five second-half corner kicks and forced Tiffin goalkeeper Nick Cherry into two saves. Veljko Radovanovic recorded Lake Erie's first shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but Cherry made the stop.
The Storm continued to push late, with William Hjelte putting another shot on target in the 89th minute, but Cherry again came up with the save to keep the match scoreless. Tiffin had a late opportunity of its own when Josh Manu tested Bassett in the 83rd minute, but the Lake Erie goalkeeper made the stop.
Tiffin finished with an 11-2 advantage in shots and a 9-7 edge in corner kicks, but both teams recorded two shots on goal. Bassett played all 90 minutes in goal for Lake Erie, making two saves and recording the shutout. The draw gives the Storm another conference point as they continue G-MAC play on Thursday October 8th at home as they take on the Malone Pioneers at 5pm.
