Storm Fall to Wayne State to Conclude Midwest Region Crossover

HAMMOND, Ind. – The Lake Erie College volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to Wayne State University on Saturday morning at the Midwest Region Crossover Tournament. The Warriors claimed the match by scores of 25-22, 25-22, and 25-11.

Sadie Nawrocki led the Storm offensively with 13 kills, while Kennedy Stewart added six kills. Kylie Anderson orchestrated the offense with 26 assists and contributed six digs. Paige Jestadt paced the defensive effort with 14 digs.

Lake Erie opened the first set with an early 5-0 run, using strong attacking to put the Warriors on their heels. Wayne State responded by working its way back into the set, eventually tying the score at 5-5. The teams traded points throughout a competitive frame, but the Warriors found enough separation late to win 25-22 despite 14 Storm kills.

The second set followed a similar pattern, with Lake Erie keeping pace with Wayne State in another tightly contested battle. The Storm recorded 12 kills in the frame and stayed within striking distance, but the Warriors again delivered at key moments to take the set by the same 25-22 score and move ahead two sets to none.

Wayne State took control in the third set, hitting .500 with 17 kills while limiting Lake Erie to six kills. The Warriors built momentum and steadily extended their advantage as the Storm struggled to find offensive rhythm. Wayne State closed out the set 25-11 to complete the sweep.

Nawrocki finished with a team-high 13 kills on a .320 hitting percentage. Anderson added four kills and two block assists to go with her 26 assists, while Ni'yah Fuggs contributed four kills and a team-best four total blocks. Jestadt recorded a match-high 14 digs, and Cecelia Mullen and Anderson each served an ace.

Wayne State finished with a .336 hitting percentage and 51 kills, compared with Lake Erie's 32 kills and .152 hitting percentage. The Storm did hold a 6-5 advantage in total blocks.

Lake Erie moves to 8-12 overall and will be back in action on Friday night at Northwood University.
