Juricko's Goal Lifts Storm Past Ashland

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's soccer team secured a 1-0 victory over Ashland University on Saturday, October 10, behind a first-half goal from Fabio Juricko and a strong defensive performance from the Storm.

With the win, Lake Erie improves to 7-4-3 overall and 6-2-2 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play, while Ashland falls to 5-7-0 overall and 4-5-0 in conference action.

The Storm controlled much of the offensive pressure in the opening half, outshooting the Eagles 7-4. Lake Erie created several scoring opportunities early, with William Hjelte, Veljko Radovanovic, Linus Oestlund, and Alex Banjac each recording shots as the Storm searched for the opening goal.

Lake Erie broke through in the 40th minute when Juricko found the back of the net at the 39:59 mark. Florian Senf and Nicolas Vagujhelyi were credited with assists on the play, helping Fabio Juricko record his third goal of the season and give the Storm a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The Storm continued to generate offensive opportunities in the second half. Radovanovic tested Ashland goalkeeper Jaime Duran in the 64th minute before Zackary McAllister-Wilson nearly doubled the lead with a header that struck the crossbar just over a minute later.

Ashland increased its offensive pressure as the match progressed, recording five second-half shots and four corner kicks. However, Lake Erie's defense remained composed, limiting the Eagles' opportunities and protecting the one-goal advantage.

Goalkeeper Patrick Bassett played a key role in preserving the shutout, recording four saves across 90 minutes. Two of those saves came in a critical stretch late in the second half, stopping Ashland's Daniel Drage in the 76th minute and Lewis Hill in the 77th minute to keep the Eagles off the scoreboard.

Lake Erie finished the contest with an 11-9 advantage in total shots, while Ashland held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks. Radovanovic led the Storm offensively with four shots, including one on goal, while Juricko recorded the match's lone goal.

The victory gives Lake Erie its seventh win of the season and sixth conference victory as the Storm continues its G-MAC campaign on Thursday, October 15 as they travel to North Canton, OH to take on the Walsh Cavaliers at 7:30pm.
