MENTOR, Ohio -- On February 22, five members of the Lake Erie College Volleyball team had the privilege of volunteering at Broadmoor School in Mentor, Ohio, during an energetic and inspiring basketball game. The gym buzzed with excitement as Broadmoor's students, many with developmental disabilities, took the court with huge smiles and fierce determination.
Our student-athletes were very excited to be competing alongside the students at Braodmoor in this competitive contest. Their energy and encouragement created an atmosphere filled with laughter, high-fives, and unforgettable moments of teamwork.
Lake Erie volleyball student-athlete, Gabrielle Jones, shared, "It was amazing to see the players' confidence shine through. Every shot made and every pass completed was celebrated like a championship win."
This inspiring opportunity was presented to the team from several of the team's Elementary Education students as a way to connect with the community and encourage the students at Broadmoor.Â
At halftime, the volunteers and Broadmoor students bonded over snacks and conversation, creating connections that stretched beyond the basketball court. By the end of the event, it was clear that everyone — players, volunteers, and spectators alike — walked away as winners, with their hearts a little fuller and their smiles a little wider.
Lake Erie College Volleyball looks forward to returning to Broadmoor soon, continuing a partnership rooted in community, compassion, and the pure joy of the game.
