Storm Stopped by Saints in Four Sets

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Kentucky – The Lake Erie volleyball team traveled down south to the Bluegrass State for a battle against the Thomas More Saints. The Storm would be able to grind out a set, but would fall in four sets.

Set 1: The Saints would march out to an early 10-4 lead. Thomas More continued to overwhelm Lake Erie, growing their lead to 22-8. Each of the last three points the Storm would get in the set would be on blocks coming from Sadie Nawrocki and Kennedy Stewart, and two blocks from Kennady Wiley and Allison Kirch. The Saints would take the set comfortably 25-11.   
 
Set 2: After a brief exchange to begin the set, the Saints would move ahead 9-5 after taking five straight points. The Storm would tie the set up at 15 after taking four straight points with kills from Jasmine Heyward and Ni'yah Fuggs, and an ace from Bella Kessler. Thomas More responded with five of the next six points, moving back ahead 20-16. Lake Erie would move back ahead 22-21 after taking six of the next seven points with kills from Kirch and Nawrocki, a solo block from Nawrocki, and a block from Nawrocki and Stewart. The Saints would march on for the last four points of the set, closing the set at 25-22.
 
Set 3: The Saints would race out to an early 6-2 lead to begin the set. The Storm would then move ahead 9-8 after kills from Stewart, Nawrocki, Heyward, and Jenna Sayles. Thomas More answered with three of the next four points, moving back ahead 12-10. Lake Erie would then move back ahead 15-14 after a kill from Heyward, and blocks from Wiley and Fuggs, and Wiley and Nora Larson. The Saints would have déjà vu, answering with three of the next four points to move back ahead 18-16. The Storm would then answer with three of the next four points with kills from Fuggs and Nawrocki, going ahead 20-19. Extra points would be needed to close the set out. After Thomas More moved ahead 24-23, Lake Erie would take the final three points of the set with a kill from Larson and an ace from Heyward, swiping the set 26-24.  
 
Set 4: The Saints would jolt ahead early for a 7-2 lead. The Storm would strike, taking nine of the next 10 points to go ahead 11-8 with kills from Stewart and Heyward, assisted from Kylie Anderson, and two aces from Cecelia Mullen. Thomas More would move back ahead 16-14 after taking six of seven points. The Saints would then grow their lead to 20-16. Lake Erie would cut the deficit to 21-19, taking three of the next four points with a kill from Heyward, assisted from Mullen. Thomas More would close out the set 25-21.

Lake Erie concludes the 2025 season at Kentucky Wesleyan College on Friday, November 14th at 7 p.m.  
 
Kentucky Wesleyan is currently 1-22 overall and 0-13 in G-MAC play this season. Recently, the Panthers fell in straight sets on the road against Findlay and Tiffin. In the 2025 preseason poll, Kentucky Wesleyan was picked to finish 4th in the G-MAC South division.
