Storm Drop Two to the Dragons on the Road

TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Lake Erie softball team traveled to Tiffin, Ohio today to take on the Tiffin University Dragons. The Storm were unable to overcome the hot Dragons and they dropped both games of the doubleheader on the road.

GAME 1

LAKE ERIE - 0
TIFFIN - 7

The bats were cold in the opening game for the Storm. They tallied two hits in the contest (Lily Turkowski and Emma Spahr) and were unable to keep the Dragons off the board. Despite the offensive struggles, the pitching did a good job at limiting the damage and didn't let Tiffin score more than two runs in any given inning.

Addison Nugent got the start in the circle and went 4.2 total innings while Sydney Murray threw 1.1 allowing zero earned runs.

WP: E. Esterby (10-4)
LP: Addison Nugent (0-11)

GAME 2

LAKE ERIE - 3
TIFFIN - 11

5 Innings

The Dragons jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first inning, forcing the Storm defense to play from behind. In the top of the third, Lake Erie finally got on the board with a run manufactured by Samantha Lippiatt and taking advantage of Tiffin miscues. During her at-bat, she singled to right center field, advanced to second on a wild pitch, to third on a groundout, and scored on another wild pitch.

The top of the fifth saw more Storm offensive production. Lippiatt kicked things off with a single and once again advanced to second and then third on two separate wild pitches. Lily Turkowski walked and both of them scored on a double to left field by Emma Spahr.

With an 8-3 score, Tiffin scored three in the bottom of the fifth and walk-off run-ruled the Storm to finish up the day.

Spahr and Lippiatt each had two hits, accounting for all four Lake Erie hits.

WP: L. Key (7-5)
LP: Kai Mortensen (1-11)
