McNeal’s Six Goals Not Enough as Storm Falls to Tiffin

TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's lacrosse team traveled to Tiffin on Sunday, battling hard but ultimately falling short, 12-9. Although they never held the lead, the Storm kept the game close and had several opportunities to overtake the Dragons late. Sophomore Brooke McNeal was outstanding once again, scoring six goals and bringing her season total to 23, ranking ninth in the G-MAC. With the loss, Lake Erie moves to 1-8 on the season with eight games remaining.

Game Recap

Tiffin struck first with two quick goals, but McNeal responded at the 4:22 mark to cut the deficit to 2-1 by the end of the first period. Less than a minute into the second, Reese Friesen netted her eighth goal of the season, tying the game at two. However, Tiffin answered with two quick scores to regain the lead, 4-2. Lake Erie fought back with goals from McNeal and Madelyn Goodrich to even the score at four midway through the quarter. The Dragons closed the half strong, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 7-4 lead into halftime.

Tiffin extended its lead to 9-4 early in the third quarter, making it five straight goals. The Storm refused to back down, with McNeal scoring twice and Goodrich adding another to pull within two. The Dragons added a late goal, keeping a 10-7 advantage entering the final quarter.

Lake Erie started the fourth with urgency, winning the draw control and seeing McNeal race downfield to score just 12 seconds in, cutting the gap to 10-8. Tiffin quickly responded two minutes later, reestablishing a three-goal lead. McNeal struck again with 9:39 remaining, bringing the Storm back within two. Despite multiple opportunities in the closing minutes, including six more shots, Lake Erie was unable to convert. The Dragons sealed the victory with one final goal, winning 12-9.
