Storm Drop Third Straight on the Road with 9-6 Loss at D'Youville

BUFFALO, New York -- The Lake Erie men's lacrosse team played their third straight game on the road against the D'Youville Saints. The Storm would fall 9-6 and are now 0-3 on the season. 
 
Game Recap

Lake Erie struggled to find the net early, going scoreless in the first quarter. The Saints broke the deadlock with 1:17 left in the period to take a 1-0 lead.

D'Youville added another goal early in the second quarter, going up 2-0. The Storm responded at 11:46 when Joey Ellison, assisted by Lasse Liftin, got Lake Erie on the board. The Saints answered quickly, extending their lead to 3-1 at the 9:06 mark. Kyle Gardner kept the Storm within reach, scoring with 5:35 left to make it 3-2. Both teams traded goals in the final minute—D'Youville scored with 42 seconds left, but Naythan Zurowski found the net with 12 seconds remaining to send the game into halftime at 4-3.

The Saints pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Storm 4-1. Lake Erie's lone goal came from Billy Coughlin, assisted by John Collins, at 8:14 to briefly cut the deficit to 5-4. D'Youville then rattled off three straight goals, building an 8-4 lead heading into the fourth.

In the final quarter, Gardner struck twice, both assisted by Tim Woods, but it wasn't enough to close the gap as the Saints held on for the 9-6 win.

Lake Erie holds their home opener against Seton Hill on Wednesday, March 5th at 7 p.m. Seton Hill is currently ranked #8 in the USILA rankings and are 2-0 to begin the season with wins against Roberts Wesleyan and Chestnut Hill. Last season, the Storm and Griffins competed at Seton Hill in the regular season and G-MAC tournament with the Griffins coming out on top in each game.
