LAKELAND, Flo. -- The Lake Erie women's basketball team kicked off the Mocs Thanksgiving Classic this afternoon against the host institution, Florida Southern College at the Jenkins Field House. The Storm played the Mocs close down the stretch but fell 71-59.

Lake Erie struck first to begin the game, taking an early 3-0 lead after a three pointer from
Nina Shaffer. The Mocs went on a little tear but the Storm responded by going on a 6-2 run to end the quarter down just 18-12.
They carried that momentum into the second, outscoring the Mocs 18-14 to cut the deficit to just 32-30Â at the half.
Florida Southern pulled away in the third, but the Storm responded once again, outscoring the Mocs 23-12 in the fourth before falling 71-59.
Shaffer led the team with 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting and
Kylie Maxwell led on the defensive end with a team-high nine rebounds and two blocks.
Bolstered by strong second and fourth quarters, the Storm shot 43.9% from the field.

Lake Erie will be back in action tomorrow at 12 p.m. to finish the Mocs Thanksgiving Classic against Lynn University.
