INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana -- The Lake Erie men's soccer team continued their non-conference schedule tonight against the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds. The Storm looked strong in the matchup and finished regulation with a 1-0 victory to bring their record at 1-1 on the season.
Game Recap
A week after suffering a big 5-0 loss to #7 Gannon, the Storm looked to get back on track against a historically good UIndy program.
As expected, the two teams played a physical, tough game. Between the two sides, six yellow cards were issued in addition to 13 fouls. Early on, the Storm had a slight edge on the Greyhounds, outshooting them 4-2 in the first half. With time winding down though,
Aaron Garrote found
Linus Oestlund for their first points of the season to give Lake Erie a 1-0 lead.
From, there, the Storm defense would bend but not break, as they allowed four total shots but only one on goal, accounting for senior goalkeeper
Jasper Rump's lone save of the contest.Â
The Storm outshot the Greyhounds 12-6 with four on goal compared to UIndy's one.
Tomas Fernandez led the team with three while
Isaiah Allen contributed two.
The Matchup
The two sides last met in the second round of the NCAA DII tournament last season with the Greyhounds advancing on a 1-0 victory. Historically a tough matchup for the Storm, this marks the first win in program history against UIndy and they now have a 1-3-1 record all-time.
Looking Ahead
Lake Erie will begin conference play next week on Tuesday, September 17th at 7 p.m. on the road against the Walsh University Cavaliers. Walsh currently has a 1-2 record with an upcoming matchup against Bryant and Stratton Rochester before their bout with the Storm.
