Offensive Surge Powers Storm to Sweep Over Ursuline

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie softball team traveled today to visit the Ursuline Arrows for another Great Midwest (G-MAC) series. The Storm won their first games of the season in grand fashion, breaking several records in game two. They now sit at 2-22 on the season and 2-8 in G-MAC play.

GAME 1
LAKE ERIE - 3
URSULINE - 0

The Storm sent Carly Rowland to the mound for game one. She pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing six hits while striking out six as well.

In the top of the first, with two outs, Emma Spahr reached base on a sharp single to left center. Lillian Campell then drove her home with a double to left field to give the Storm an early 1-0 lead

The game remained scoreless over the next three innings, but in the top of the 5th Campbell came up big again, blasting a two-run home run and extending the Storm lead to 3-0 which would remain the final.

Spahr, Campbell, and CJ Garcia each recorded two hits in the game and Jasmine Gonzales rounded things out with a hit of her own.

WP: Carly Rowland (1-11)
LP: Liza Barbato (0-8)

GAME 2
LAKE ERIE - 20
URSULINE - 13

The Storm bats came alive for game two against the Arrows. After a 1-1 tie in the first, Lake Erie erupted for 11 runs in the third inning.

The Arrows did not take that lightly though and in the bottom of the fourth they posted nine runs of their own, trimming the Storm lead to 12-11.

Next inning though the Storm distanced themselves from the Arrows by putting up five more runs. When all was said and done, Lake Erie finished with a 20-13 victory which took two hours and thirty minutes to complete.

In the game, the Storm set single-game team records for most runs, hits, and at-bats. Ironically enough, the run record was originally set on April 9th, 2007; exactly 17 years ago to the day.

Arianna Tammaro, Peyton Powers, and Rachel Fender each tied the single-game school record with six at-bats each in the contest.

Tammaro finished the day 4-for-6 with two RBIs. Fender, Powers (2 RBIs), Emma Spahr (3 RBIs) and Lillian Campbell (2 RBIs) each recorded three hits, while Brynn Gillen, Ava Scott (3 RBIs), and CJ Garcia (2 RBIs) each recorded multiple hits in the game as well. Despite the offensive surge, the Storm managed just one home run, courtesy of Scott in the third inning.

WP: Baeleigh Burwell (1-4)
LP: Kathleen Wack (1-8)

The Storm will be back in action on Saturday, April 13th on the road against the Cedarville Yellow Jackets. Game one starts at 12 p.m.
