Baseball Splits with Yellow Jackets on Senior Night

EASTLAKE, OH – The Lake Erie Storm baseball team hosted their last home series of the season as they completed a series of double-headers on April 25 and 26 against the Cedarville University Yellow Jackets. Lake Erie split the series with the Yellow jackets 2-2. This brings their season record to 19-22 and 11-15 in G-MAC play.

GAME ONE
LAKE ERIE - 6
CEDARVILLE - 5

Lake Erie started the contest off with four quick runs in the first inning to lead 4-2. They did not score again until the sixth and seventh innings, while only giving up one run in the Yellow Jackets' attempted comeback in the ninth. Silva tripled in the first for 3 RBIs, while Esposito singled to score Silva. Yankovich and Z. Cadiz each had a stolen base. Jon Poppy had a fantastic outing, going  7.1 innings pitched, giving up three earned runs, and striking out eight. Vance got the save with two strikeouts. Silva went 2-4 with three RBIs, while Garrett Esposito went 2-4 with one RBI.

GAME TWO
LAKE ERIE - 1
CEDARVILLE - 3

After scoring one in the first inning of game two, Lake Erie was unable to muster any other offense and would be held scoreless, losing 3-1. Zimba Cadiz scored on an error made by the Yellow Jackets giving the Storm their only run. Zimba Cadiz again had one stolen base in the game. Robert Helt went a solid 5.2 innings pitched allowing three earned runs, and striking out five. Helt moved to 5-5 the year after the loss. Zimba Cadiz and Graham Solak each finished 2-4, while Jaxson Christ had the teams only RBI in the game.

GAME THREE
LAKE ERIE - 8
CEDARVILLE - 10

Lake Erie rallied in the fourth inning after giving up four in the top. Justin Major homered giving him two RBIs and tying the game. Szymczak then doubled for an RBI. After an error on the Yellow jackets the Storm took the lead 6-4. The Storm would hold onto the fourth inning lead and win the game 6-4. Esposito, Major, and Smentek all had a home run. Justin Major also had one stolen base. Szymczak went 2-4 with one RBI, while Major went 1-3 and two RBIs. Gage Miller, Brady Woods, and AJ Dallmayer all delivered in their innings in relief. Miller picks up the win as Dallmayer gets the save. Dallmayer finished with three strikeouts.

GAME FOUR
LAKE ERIE - 0
CEDARVILLE- 10

The Storm battled hard in the final game of the series. After being down 12-4 going into the fourth inning, Lake Erie persevered with their own six run fifth inning to bring the game back within three runs. After a scoreless sixth inning for both teams, the Yellow Jackets had a monster offensive game and scored seven runs in the seventh. After a glimmer of hope in coming back, the Storm found themselves mercied after the seventh inning being down 10. Zimba Cadiz Graham Solak (2), and Jacob Mote each had a double in the contest, while Mitchel Szymczak had a sacrifice fly. Ross, Z. Cadiz, and Solak each had a stolen base. While the Storm were able to muster up a potential offensive comeback, the defensive side struggled, making six fielding errors. Only 13 of the 21 runs scored by the Yellow Jackets were earned runs. Solak finished 3-4 with three RBIs. Mote went 2-3 with two RBIs.

Lake Erie is back in action as they travel for their final series of the year with double-headers against the University of Findlay Oilers, on May 3 and May 4. Friday's games begin at 3 PM with Saturday's games beginning at 11 AM.
