PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie softball team hosted the Ashland University Eagles for a doubleheader today at Diamond 9 in Kiwanis Recreation Park. The Storm fought hard but a few big innings resulted in the Eagles taking both games.
GAME 1
ASHLAND - 14
LAKE ERIE - 4
The Eagles came out of the gate playing aggressive. Over the first three innings of play, they put together six hits and four stolen bases to take a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Storm struck back.
Emma Spahr kicked off the inning with a walk.
Ava Scott reached first on an error by the Eagles left fielder and during the next at-bat,
CJ Garcia homered to center field, giving the Storm a 3-2 lead.
During the next three innings, the Eagles put up twelve more runs and the Storm would suffer a 14-4 loss.
As a team, the Lake Erie offense recorded six hits and only struck out three times. On the mound, starting pitcher
Carly Rowland went five complete innings, giving up nine hits and five earned runs.

GAME 2
ASHLAND - 11
LAKE ERIE - 4
Both teams scored in the first inning to begin game two. The Eagles scored two, while the Storm notched one on an RBI single to left field by
Lillian Campbell.
Each team tallied one run a piece in the third inning, but in the top of the fifth, Ashland would breakout for five runs, extending their lead to 8-2.
Despite a two-run inning in the bottom of the seventh, the Storm were unable to comeback and they would suffered their second loss of the day to the Eagles, 11-4.
Campbell finished the day 4-for-4 with one RBI, while
CJ Garcia and
Peyton Powers each went 2-for-4 in the game.

The pair of losses now take the Storm's record to 3-27 on the year and 3-13 in G-MAC play. They will be back in action on Saturday, April 20th when they travel to Hillsdale, Michigan to take on the Hillsdale Chargers. Game one starts at 1:00 p.m.
