CRESTVIEW HILLS, Kentucky -- The Lake Erie softball team continued their road trip this weekend, taking on the Thomas More Saints in the Sunday doubleheader. The Storm dropped both games, and now fall to 3-25 on the season and 3-11 in G-MAC play.
GAME 1 - 9 innings
LAKE ERIE - 0
THOMAS MORE - 1
It was a classic pitchers dual between the Storm and the Saints. Both starting pitchers were tossing complete-game shutouts through seven innings, which forced extra innings.
In the bottom of the ninth, Storm starting pitcher
Carly Rowland shut down the first two batters she faced but then conceded a walk to Anna Greenwell. During the next at-bat, Greenwell stole second and was driven home with a single to center field by Josie Wefer to give the Saints the 1-0 walk-off win.
The Storm offense managed just three hits in the game with two of them coming from
Lillian Campbell.
Rowland finished the day with 8.2 innings pitched, allowing six hits, one run, walking five and striking out four. She threw 149 pitches in the game, breaking the school record which was previously set by Kaylie Lewis in 2015 when she threw 144.

GAME 2
LAKE ERIE - 5
THOMAS MORE - 10
In the top of the first in game one, the Storm came out threatening.
Arianna Tammaro kicked things off by drawing a walk and
Megan Miller followed with a single to left field.
Emma Spahr then reached base on an error by the Thomas More first baseman on a bunt attempt which loaded the bases with no outs. Unfortunately, Lake Erie was unable to capitalize and they finished the inning with no runs scored.
The Storm would get on board in the first inning when Miller scored on another error by the Saints first baseman. In the bottom half of the inning though, Thomas More took the lead back by putting up three runs.
In the fourth, the Storm responded with three of their own to take the lead back.
Peyton Powers got things started witha. single through the right side and advanced to third on a double by
Ava Scott.
CJ Garcia drove home Powers with a single up the middle and two batters later,
Jordyn Hawkins drove in Scott with a single up the middle as well. Hawkins scored the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Tammaro to give the Storm a 4-3 lead.
Unfortunately, the Saints had a big sixth inning, putting up seven runs which would be enough to seal the loss for the Storm.
Miller led the way for Lake Erie with a 2-for-4 effort. Campbell, Powers, Scott, Garcia and Hawkins all recorded a hit in the game as well.
