Softball Falls to Malone in Home Opener

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie softball team played in their 2024 home opener today, hosting the Malone University Pioneers. The Storm offense struggled and they dropped both games, falling to 0-16 on the year and starting 0-2 in G-MAC play.

The Storm bats were quiet to begin their home opening series. 

The Pioneers got on the board first with a solo home run to left field in the second inning. Emma Spahr tied things up with her sixth home run of the year in the fourth inning.

In the seventh, the Pioneers added on three more runs and the Lake Erie offense was unable to come back, managing just one more hit off Malone's Mia Rose.

Carly Rowland pitched a seven inning complete game, allowing nine hits, four earned runs, and striking out seven.

Malone kicked of game two with a pair of runs in the first inning. In the third, the added three more and in the fifth they added five more. The Storm were unable to put a run on the board despite seven hits, and they fell 10-0 via mercy rule.

Emma Spahr went 3-for-3 in the game while Jordyn Long went 2-for-2 herself. 

Freshman Sydney Murray took the lose on the mound, allowing seven earned runs across 4.1 innings pitched.

The Storm will be back in action on Wednesday, March 20th at home against the Walsh Cavaliers. Game one starts at 2 p.m.
