Goodrich Scores in Final Seconds to Give Lake Erie the 11-10 Win

PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie women's lacrosse team continued their string of home games on Wednesday, March 13th to host the Edinboro Fighting Scots. A tight game throughout the four periods would bring the game to a 10-10 tie in the end, with Madelyn Goodrich scoring in the final seconds to give Lake Erie the 11-10 win. This evens out the Storm's record to 4-4.

The Storm took an early lead after Brooke McNeal, Cynthia Saxby, Goodrich, and Erin Snyder each scored to take a 4-0 lead. The Fighting Scots combatted with a goal, yet Lake Erie held the 4-1 lead going into the second.

The Storm and Edinboro split the second period with two goals each, with Saxby recoding two more goals for the day. Going into the half, the Storm was still up 6-3.

Period three was controlled by the Fighting Scots with five goals to the Storm's one goal from Saxby. Despite holding the lead for the first half, Lake Erie would have to work to gain control with a one goal deficit going into the last period.

With Edinboro up 8-7 in the fourth, Storm's Reese Friesen was able to tie things up after an early goal at the 14:14 minute mark. The Fighting Scots responded with two goals taking back the lead, yet Emma Rhoads and McNeal were quick to respond tying the score up at 10-10. Fighting for a potential over-time game, the Storm prevailed after Goodrich found the back of the net from Corinne Shimek with six seconds left to spare. Lake Erie took the nail-biting 11-10 win in the end.

Saxby led the Storm with four goals and one ground ball. Mea Lally picked up four ground balls along with two caused turnovers. Bethany Kirkwood was in the goal all 60 minutes for the Storm, picking up two saves for the afternoon.
