PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie Storm women's basketball team was back in action at home for their last game of the season against the Walsh University Cavaliers. Despite out-scoring the Cavaliers in the fourth quarter, the Storm were unable to slow down the Cavaliers offense resulting in a 81-62 loss. This brings the final record for the Storm to 3-22 for the year and 2-18 in G-MAC play.
The Storm struggled to contain the Cavaliers offense in the first half. The Cavaliers shot an impressive 6-of-9 (66.67%) from the three point stripe in the first quarter. The Storm found themselves down by 19 points at the half. However, the Storm continued to fight in the second half. In the fourth quarter, the Storm outscored the Cavaliers 22-21 and shot 6-of-15 (40%) from the field. However, the Cavaliers lead was too much for the Storm to complete the comeback, resulting in a 81-62 loss.
The Storm were led by senior Alexis Lehmkuhl in her final career game. Lehmkuhl had 16 points off 7-of-10 (70%) shooting. She also had seven rebounds and two blocks. Nina Shaffer had a career high of eight assists. She also had seven points, three rebounds and one steal. Grace Lyon led the Storm in rebounds with nine. She also had 15 points, a block and an assist.
For the 2023-2024 season, the Storm averaged 51.2 points per game off an average 34.9% shooting. The Storm averaged 32.8 rebounds, 9.2 assists, and 6.7 steals a game. Anna Ibos led the Storm in scoring with 226 total points. Kylie Maxwell led the Storm in rebounds with 115. Sophie Chipps led the Storm in assists with 51. Lehmkuhl led the Storm in blocks with 27. Lastly Shaffer, Chipps, Maxwell and Ibos all led the Storm with 25 steals each.
Alexis Lehmkuhl finishes her career with the following statistics: 329 total points, 221 total rebounds, 33 assists, 54 blocks, and 19 steals.
