Johnson Breaks Record As Storm Fall to ODU at Home

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie College football team hosted the Ohio Dominican University Panthers today for another Great Midwest matchup. It was an exiting back-and-forth game, but ultimately the Storm would fall 38-21. The loss drops their record to 2-8 on the season and 1-7 in G-MAC play.

Game Recap
It was all about key plays today for the Storm and they started off strong during Ohio Dominican's first offensive series. With the Panthers on the LEC 26 on 3rd and 9, Cameron Webb came up big with a nine-yard sack, knocking ODU out of field goal range and forcing them to punt.

With their first drive starting at their own five yardline, the Storm were forced to run and ended up punting themselves. The punt was blocked at the line though and gave the Panthers the ball at the LEC 20. ODU scored on their next play and took an early 7-0 lead.

After trading scoreless drives, Lake Erie marched their way downfield and capped off the drive with a 17-yard touchdown run by Joshua Jean-Baptiste to tie the game.

The remaining half saw each team put together decent drives but neither were able to put points on the board, bringing the halftime score to 7-7.

After a Storm fumble during their first offensive series of the second half, the Panthers took back the lead with a 14-7 score. Once again, the Storm responded big, this time on a 44-yard receiving touchdown by Tae'Shaun Johnson. With that touchdown, he recorded his tenth of the season, breaking out of a three-way tie for the Lake Erie single season record.

Next drive, the Panther's took the lead right back on a big play of their own but once again the Storm offense could not be contained from big plays, as Keyshawn Johnson hauled in a 62-yard reception to knot things up at 21.

Ohio Dominican took the lead back to begin the fourth quarter to go up 28-21 and midway through, a costly error would prove to be the turning point in this contest.

Having stopped the driving Panthers offense on third down, they were forced to punt. Unfortunately, an offsides penalty gave Ohio Dominican a first down and they managed to eventually convert a 22-yard field goal on that drive while shaving eleven minutes off the clock. With just 1:38 remaining, and down two scores, the Storm were in do-or-die mode. This resulted in a pick-six for Ohio Dominican to bring their lead and the final score to 38-21.

Despite the loss, the Storm defense took a big step forward today as they totaled seven tackles for loss, and a season-high four sacks, and four pass breakups.

Johnson would end up with nine catches for 127 yards along with his touchdown. Alec Lewis threw 26-for-36 for 278 yards and two passing touchdowns and Jean-Baptiste totaled 44 yards on the ground.

Both Emarion Perkins and Ronald Cutts III led the team with 11 tackles each while Jeremiah Penick impressed with two sacks on the day. Jordan Baker would also make his presence known with two tackles for loss, a sack and one pass breakup.

The Matchup
Today's game marks an important improvement for the Storm against Ohio Dominican. Their 21 points today, becomes the highest point total against the Panthers since they scored 26 in 2015. Overall, their record drops to 1-15 all-time in meetings and with the upward trajectory of head coach David Price's team, they will look to snap that streak next season on the road.

Looking Ahead
The Storm will close out their season on Saturday, November 16th against the Thomas More University Saints at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium for senior day. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
