Tough Stretch in Q1 Hands the Storm a Home Loss to the Golden Eagles

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's basketball team hosted the Clarion University Golden Eagles tonight at the Jerome T. Osborne Center for another non-conference matchup. The Storm fell 90-73 and now drop their record to 1-1 on the early season.

Game Recap
The Golden Eagles came out of the gate firing, playing fast and loose. They held a 32-17 lead after the first quarter and during that period, kept handing the ball of to Autumn Taylor who the Storm struggled to contain and scored 24 points in the quarter alone.

After that, the Storm locked in and played a very competitive game. They limited the Golden Eagles to just five three-point attempts in the quarter and launched up eight of their own, hitting three.

It was a very even matchup in the second half as well, with both teams playing more aggressive and attempting more shots in the paint and less from deep. The Storm shot 41.2 percent from the field and attempted 34 shots. In the fourth, Lake Erie started to make it an interesting game. They trimmed the Clarion lead down to just 10 with roughly six minutes to go in the game. Unfortunately, they were not be able to complete the comeback and they fell at home, 90-73.

Lillee Carlson led the team with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting followed by Caitlin Titler's 15 (4-of-8) and Kennadi Harris' 14 (5-of-13). Kylie Maxwell led the defensive effort with five rebounds and two blocked shots.

Despite the loss, the Storm were able to pull some positives from the day. Titler showed she can be a reliable option off the bench, contributing her 15 points in just 18 minutes of play. In the fourth quarter alone, she came alive and scored 11 of the team's 19.

The Matchup
This marks just the fourth meeting between the two sides and the Storm's first ever loss to the Golden Eagles. They hold a 1-1 record at home and have an 2-0 undefeated record on the road.
 
Looking Ahead
Lake Erie will continue non-conference play, Thursday, November 21st at home against the D'Youville University Saints. The game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
