Storm Concludes Regular Season with Four-Set Defeat at Ohio Dominican

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Lake Erie volleyball team concluded the regular season with a matchup against the Ohio Dominican Panthers. While Lake Erie would take the first set, Ohio Dominican would take the next three sets for a four-set victory. Lake Erie finishes the regular season 6-10 in the G-MAC and 9-20 overall. 

Game Recap

The first set would see the Storm race out to an early 7-2 lead after kills from redshirt freshman Rori Hanken and senior Katelyn McMoore, each assisted by senior Simone Schurr, a block by Hanken and freshman Gabrielle Jones, and an ace from senior Brooklyn Broadway. Lake Erie would build their lead up to 16-8 after a kill from Jones and an ace from freshman Allison Kirch. Ohio Dominican would fight back and cut the lead down to 18-14. With the score at 23-19 after a kill from Hanken, the Panthers would take the next four points to tie the set at 23-23. Extra points would be needed to decide the first set. With the score tied at 25-25, the Storm would take the next two points after a McMoore kill and an Ohio Dominican attack error to give the Storm the first set by a score of 27-25. 

The second set would begin with the teams exchanging points. Lake Erie would see their first lead at 5-4 after a junior Jasmine Heyward kill. The Panthers would slowly build momentum by taking a 14-10 lead. The Storm would take the next three points to cut the lead to 14-13 after a kill from senior Anna Lewis. Lake Erie would tie the set up at 18-18 after kills from Kirch and Heyward, each assisted by senior Sarah Leyden. Kills from Hanken, McMoore, and Jones would not be enough as Ohio Dominican would take the second set by a score of 25-21. 

The third set would see the Panthers take the life out of the Storm early by winning the first six points of the set. Ohio Dominican would see their lead grow to 12-2 with Lake Erie committing a multitude of errors. The Panthers would continue growing to a 19-3 lead with the only Storm points coming on kills from Heyward and senior Alexandra Matthews and a Panthers service error. Kills from Kirch, Matthews, and Heyward would not be enough as Ohio Dominican would dominate the third set by a score of 25-8. 

The fourth set would see the Panthers continue their dispatching of the Storm racing out to an 11-1 lead. Ohio Dominican would build their lead to 17-3. A kill from sophomore Kennady Wiley and a block from Heyward and Lewis would not be enough for Lake Erie, with the Panthers taking the fourth set by a score of 25-10.  

The Storm offense was led by McMoore, who would have eight kills. Schurr would lead the team with 20 assists and Leyden would have 13. The Storm defense was led by Jones, who would have two blocks, and Kirch would lead the team with 11 digs.

The Matchup

With the loss, Lake Erie has now lost five consecutive matches to Ohio Dominican and is 5-15 all-time against the Panthers.
