Women's Soccer Drops First Conference Matchup of Season

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Lake Erie women's soccer team opened up G-MAC play against the Northwood Timberwolves. The Storm would fall 2-0 in the match, bringing their record to 1-2-1 on the season.

In the first half both teams went back and forth as there were a combined 11 shots. Leonie Witt accounted for two of those shots, however she would miss both just right. Both goalies played well with Storm freshman Morgan Vanmeter making two saves in the half, and the Northwood goalie making three. Just before the half ended, the Timberwolves were able to find the net to make the score 1-0.

The Timberwolves defense came out strong in the second half as the Storm were only able to get off one shot. Senior Emily Tarase got the lone shot off for Lake Erie iin the 51st minute, but missed just left. The Timberwolves countered with 12 shots in the half, but Vanmeter guarded the goal well and made three saves. In the 83rd minute, however, the Timberwolves got the opportunity to shoot a penalty kick after a questionable call by the officials, which they scored, extending their lead to 2-0. The Storm were unable to respond in the final minutes, resulting in a loss.

The Storm play on their home field again on Saturday, September 16th against the Ohio Dominican Panthers at 2:30 PM.
