PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie Storm battled Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks in their first game of the 2023 season. The Storm scored first but ultimately fell 2-1 against the Redhawks.
In the first half the Redhawks offense started strong but freshman goalkeeper
Morgan Vanmeter came up with two saves to prevent them from scoring. At the 22nd minute, the first goal of the season was recorded by freshman
Emily Ngo and assisted by sophomore
Taylor Hartman. The rest of the half remained scoreless as Vanmeter recorded another save.
The second half was all Redhawks as the Storm were unable to get off a single shot. Vanmeter continued to guard the goal well but the Redhawks tied the game up in the 74th minute. Less than ten minutes later, the Redhawks scored their second goal to take a 2-1 lead. The clock ran down without another goal, giving the Redhawks the win.
Vanmeter finished the match with six saves in goal for her first collegiate start.
The Storm return to their home field on September 6th to host Glenville State at 12pm for their second game of the season.
