MacKenzie, Finfrock Score in 2-2 Draw With Pioneers

PAINESVILLE, OH —  The Storm women's soccer team took on the Glenville State Pioneers for their second home game this season. Both teams battled hard, resulting in a tied score of 2-2.

The first half was slow paced as there were only two shots attempted. Sophomore Ainsley MacKenzie had an opportunity to put the Storm on the board at the 24th minute, but missed wide left. At the 30 minute mark, the Pioneers also took a shot that was saved by freshman goalkeeper Morgan Vanmeter. The score at the half remained 0-0 as no other shots were attempted.

The second half started out strong for the Storm. In the 58th minute, MacKenzie netted her first goal on the season, giving them a 1-0 lead. Just 10 minutes later, junior Ava Finfrock was able to find the goal, assisted by Makenzie. Finfrocks first goal of her career extended the Storms lead to 2-0. Unfortunately for the Storm, the Pioneers battled back quickly as less than a minute later, they were able to score. Shortly after that, the Pioneers tied the game up at 2-2. Neither team was able to take the lead in the final minutes resulting in a draw.

The tie gives Lake Erie a 0-1-1 record to start the season. The Storm will be back in action on September 8th as they travel to Buffalo, New York to battle the D'Youville Saints.
