FINDLAY, Ohio — The Lake Erie softball team was on the road to take on the Oilers of the University of Findlay for a conference doubleheader. The Storm was successful in hits and runs for the day, but Findlay took both games. In game two, senior pitcher Grace Hammer threw her 400th career strikeout. The Storm move to a 1-11 conference record and a 6-22 overall record.
GAME 1
The Oilers took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, which was answered by the Storm with a run in the second inning. Sophomore Jasmine Gonzales singled to second base to send sophomore CJ Garcia home to bring it to a 2-1 game. Findlay was able to score again in the bottom of the second, but the Storm were quick to reply. An error by the Oilers allowed sophomore Emma Spahr to score, with the Storm down by one. The bottom of the third inning gave Findlay a 5-2 lead, forcing Lake Erie to make a comeback. Junior Jordyn Long flied out to left field in the fourth inning, sending sophomore Emma Morris home for a run and an RBI. The fifth inning was scoreless for both teams, but the Storm had a final effort in the sixth. Sophomore Arianna Tammaro doubled down the right field line to send Spahr home to bring it to 5-4, Oilers up one. The Storm reached their final out in the sixth, giving Findlay the 5-4 win.
Senior Carly Rowland was on the mound for the Storm for all sixth innings. Rowland threw two strikeouts, matching the Oilers starting pitcher.
GAME 2
The first three innings were silent from both teams, until the Storm took a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Morris singled to left field to bring Campbell home. The next innings were scoreless, up until the seventh inning when Findlay tied it up 1-1, and soon after got the game winning run to bring it to a 2-1 final.
Senior Grace Hammer pitched the second game for Lake Erie, throwing four strikeouts.
The Storm are on the road again on Tuesday, April 11th for a conference doubleheader against the Ursuline Arrows, set at 3:00 and 5:00 PM.
