Game Recap: Baseball |

Six Home Runs Not Enough For Storm to Route Chargers

HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Lake Erie College baseball team traveled to Hillsdale College for the first two games of their four-game series on the road. It was a high-scoring day for both teams but the Chargers would come out on top with two wins.

GAME 1

The Chargers kept control of the game early and continued to add onto their run total each inning except the fifth. They kicked things off with a two-run inning in the first and scored four runs in the fourth for their highest-scoring inning of the day. They would end the nine-inning game with a 14-7 final and hand the Storm their seventh consecutive loss.

Despite the lopsided score, the Storm would hit three home runs. Israel Espinosa, Zimba Cadiz, and Jacob Mote each homered with Espinosa's counting as a three-run shot.

GAME 2

Lake Erie jumped out to an early 2-0 lead to start game two but would surrender the lead in Hillsdale's first inning at the plate. The Chargers stretched out their lead to 9-2 at the end of the fourth. From there, the Storm bats got going and they outscored Hillsdale 5-1 over the remaining three innings. Unfortunately this wouldn't be enough and Lake Erie would fall 10-7 to close out the day.

The Storm would hit three more home runs in the game, this time coming from Graham Solak, Jake Vasil, and Sean Moore. For Vasil and Moore, this would be their first collegiate home runs.

Josue Cruz finished the day going 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored while relief pitchers Jay Gural and Darren Acosta pitched two combined innings of no earned-run ball.

Lake Erie will continue the series Tuesday, April 18 at Hillsdale before traveling to Canton on April 21st and 22nd to face Malone.
